All your burning questions, answered.

What types of cuisines or cooking techniques are covered in the workshops?

Métier’s workshops focus primarily on traditional French methods - farmhouse and peasant cooking. Our methods and techniques can and should be translated into kitchens around the world. Anywhere you can find quality ingredients, you can use what we have to teach.

How long do the workshops typically last?

The typical duration for a workshop is a shortened week, following the traditional French and European ‘market’ schedule.

Are the workshops suitable for beginners or experienced cooks?

Both! Workshops are customized to the participant group, but we do offer more amateur and more professionally geared workshop weeks. Check out our current offering for more information!

What should I bring to the workshop?

Everything you’d bring to a normal first day of school! Notebook, writing utensil, clothes that you feel comfortable to cook in (things do get a bit messy sometimes), and comfortable shoes.

Are ingredients and cooking equipment provided, or do I need to bring my own?

Everything necessary for the workshop is provided by Métier and our host, Relais de Camont. You may bring your own knife if you’re more comfortable with it, however, we have many from which to choose!

Is there a maximum number of participants per workshop?

Yes, we limit our hands-on workshops to ten participants at a time.

Are there any age restrictions for participants?

No, but we find that the material is most useful for those who have left high school and for those who are able to confidently lift at least 30 pounds.

Can I request a private or customized workshop for a group?

Yes, absolutely - please get in contact with us through one of the forms on the website and we’ll get back to you ASAP to build something great, together!

Are dietary restrictions or food allergies accommodated during the workshops?

We will do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies - however, there is a far lower instance of these requirements in France (specifically gluten intolerance and vegetarianism), so additional preparations should be made. Reach out to us directly with any questions.

What is the cancellation policy for workshop registrations?

In the unfortunate event that you’re unable to attend the workshop, we will transfer your credit to a future workshop that we’ll hold in France!

Are there any prerequisites or prior cooking experience required?

We expect our workshop participants to have an interest in cooking and a willingness to learn. We’ve worked with total beginners up to some of the top chefs around the world. Everyone is welcome.

Will there be opportunities to taste the dishes we prepare during the workshop?

Of course! A huge part of the workshops is devoted to tasting products - both those that we’re making as well as those from other producers in the region.

Are there any additional costs associated with the workshops, such as materials or ingredients fees?

No, everything required for the workshops is included in the course fee. The only things you will need to cover are your lodging and some dinners - though, in our experience, we eat and taste so much during the day, very light dinners are in order.

Are the workshops conducted in English or French?

Our language of instruction is English.

Do you offer advanced training for experienced chefs?

Yes, our “Professional” workshops are specifically geared towards experienced chefs and craftspeople who want to deepen their knowledge in the field.

Are workshops conducted in a hands-on format, and do they include demonstrations by skilled chefs?

All of our workshops are fully hands on as well as including demonstrations from the best in the business.

Are there opportunities for networking with other professionals in the culinary industry during the workshops?

Absolutely - we believe that connecting those in the industry with one another is key to the health of the practice. A core part of the workshops is networking with those in the course as well as being connected with past participants around the world.

What are the accommodation options for participants traveling from outside France?

We recommend either staying at an AirBnB or at one of the various hotels in Nérac.

Can participants expect to visit local markets or suppliers as part of the workshop experience?

Absolutely! One of our workshop days is always dedicated to the best local market in the region.
